Maternal and Childhealth Advocacy International

Maternal and Childhealth Advocacy International (MCAI) has a 20 year track record of saving and improving the lives of babies, children, and pregnant women and adolescent girls in some of the world’s most troubles countries. We work in partnership with MCAI to develop and deliver a Strengthening Emergency Health Care (SEC) programme in low-income countries (currently Liberia and The Gambia).

Our Strengthening Emergency Health Care Programme aims to overcome the many barriers faced by women, children and infants when seeking appropriate and timely care and takes a practical rights-based approach to health care. The SEC programme involves training different types of health workers in the emergency management of babies, children, and pregnant women, renovating and refurbishing health facilities, providing medical equipment, supplies and emergency medicines and organising transport systems to take seriously ill patients to health facilities.

Please click here for information on the courses included in this programme. Also visit MCAI to read more about MCAI’s innovative project to provide free of charge a comprehensive textbook and practical pocketbooks in the hospital care of maternal, child and neonatal health, to front-line health workers in low resource settings. Buying these books helps to fund this not-for-profit project.

RCPCH, NSPCC and BSPD

We have worked alongside the Royal College of Paediatrics and Childhealth (RCPCH) and the NSPCC to develop and implement two training programmes in child protection for trainees in paediatrics, emergency medicine and general practice: Child Protection Recognition and Response (CPRR) and Child Protection in Practice (CPIP). The CPRR course has also been adapted for the training of specialist paediatric dentists. This adaptation has been carried out in collaboration with the original three partners and the British Society of Paediatric Dentistry.

Ministry of Defence

We are working with the military in the UK to adapt our existing paediatric courses to fulfil the training needs of those deploying to Afghanistan. The MIMMS course is also predeployment training.
