We call this a 'fast track' - you need to send us your details on the attached form. You do not need to undertake the GIC, but can move straight on to being an instructor candidate on the provider course and you need to tell the centre that you are a 'fast track' when you offer to teach. You can contact any course centre to arrange your instructor candidate course - a full list of dates can be found on the ALSG website www.alsg.org - click on the Courses page, choose the relevant course and then look in the course dates section of the page. There's a link on the list which will allow you to email the course organiser in a particular centre directly. Top
 
Are you already GIC trained or ATLS Instructor trained? If so, see the FAQ above.

If not, we will not be contacting you until after the course returns have been received from the course centre where you undertook your provider course. This can take up to 2 months from the date of the course, so please bear with us. If the course was more than 2 months ago, then please email us using the linked form. Top

 
If you can complete the GIC and 2 ICs within 4 years of the provider course then go ahead. If not, unfortunately, you will need to start at the beginning i.e. do the provider course and if recommended, redo the GIC. Top
 
The course of action will really depend on how long it is since you last taught and if you completed your instructor training initially - i.e. became a full instructor.

1. If you are a full instructor and if it is within the last 4 years, then you should complete the linked form and send it to us and we will get back to you within 2 weeks with a suggested way forward.

2. If you are a full instructor and it is more than 4 years and you are a current instructor in another life support course, then you should complete the linked form and we will get back to you within 2 weeks with a suggested way forward.

3. If you are a full instructor and it is more than 4 years and you are not a current instructor in another life support course, then you will need to redo the provider course and if you are recommended for instructor training you will then need to complete the GIC again.

4. If you an instructor candidate and it is within the last 4 years, then you should complete the linked form and we will get back to you within 2 weeks with a suggested way forward.

5. If you are an instructor candidate and it is more than 4 years and you are a current instructor in another life support course, then you should complete the linked form and we will get back to you within 2 weeks with a suggested way forward.

6. If you are an instructor candidate and it is more than 4 years and you are not a current instructor in another life support course, then you need to redo the provider course and if you are recommended for instructor training you will then need to complete the GIC again. Top

Log in to www.alsg.org/learning. You can print your instructor certificate by accessing your course overview page by clicking on ‘my home’ in the navigation box on the left. You will be attached to a course called ‘full instructor’ with the course type and the date you became a full instructor or recertified.Top
 
Please note: instructors should be from a medical, nursing, ECP, ODP or RTO background for which APLS is relevant to their working practice. The Working Group recommend that nurses are senior staff nurses and above. If you are unsure about your eligibility, please contact the ALSG office to discuss it further. You need to contact the Resuscitation Council UK - www.resus.org.uk or 0207 388 4678. Top
 
You need to recertify every 4 years from the year that you became a full instructor or recertified as an instructor. Top
