Emergency Paediatrics Course (APLS) gets RCPCH endorsement!
We are delighted to announce that our leading emergency paediatric training course, APLS, has been granted official endorsement from the Royal College of Paediatric and Child Health (RCPCH).
Taught in over 100 centres around the UK, APLS continues to be the leading course for paediatric specialists. The APLS blended learning package is used to demonstrate mandatory life support skills required in the RCPCH curriculum, with key capabilities being covered in the course manual, e-learning modules and the practical aspect of the course.
APLS is recognised as key to the ongoing development for paediatric clinicians as it includes eight hours of practical training in 16 different simulation scenarios, giving candidates the opportunity to practice their specific role within a team in a safe environment.
Supporting the practical elements of the course, APLS includes additional resources including the course manual, e-library including video resources for rarely seen conditions and e-learning modules which all form part of the package as well as course updates for four years following completion of the course.
In a statement from the RCPCH, Vice President for Education & Professional Development said “The RCPCH are pleased to provide Endorsement of the Advanced Life Support Group (ALSG) Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS) course.
APLS provides the knowledge and skills necessary for recognition and effective treatment and stabilisation of children with life threatening emergencies, using a
structured, sequential approach and aims to teach, practice and test the acquisition and use of these technical skills”
Stephanie Smith, APLS Working Group Chair and Emergency Paediatric Consultant and Clinical Director Nottingham Children’s Hospital also said “this is a fantastic achievement for APLS and the team involved as it is testament to the extensive coverage of emergency and trauma core training and education in the specialty.
She concluded: “APLS has evolved in the twenty-five years since inception and the ancillary resources not only underpin the course content but are continually available to support the candidate and act as an immediate point of reference.”
ALSG works closely with clinicians which encounters all aspects of paediatrics healthcare, ensuring simulations and the hands-on training are realistic which can be perfected time and time again.
