ALSG Latest News
Today is Young Carer’s Day and it’s heartening that these
young people are recognised for their continuing care of loved ones, many of
whom take on enormous responsibilities at a very young age.
Through the SAFE Community programme – ELFS and IMPS (@oxfordIMPS1)
– ALSG has been providing training to school children in Salford to equip them
with the skills and confidence to respond to an accident or emergency at home
or in the community. Committed to providing ongoing basic life support training
to the community and helping save lives, ALSG has continued to deliver basic
life support training within the community, training 2,400 Salford residents
since 2016.
SAFE
trains children and young people to follow a standardised approach, following a
system which is simple to understand in order to offer these young carers the
maximum support.

ALSG welcomes today’s
announcement by Matthew Hancock, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care,
of an investment of £3.5billion specifically aimed at primary and community
healthcare*.
This investment places emphasis on care closer to home, something ALSG is committed to through its SAFE programme.
As a leading charity delivering training, ALSG has devised and developed a standardised, structured approach which shares common language through SAFE. The programme creates a seamless pathway for adults and children, ensuring that they receive the right care, in the right place, at the right time.
With the announcement of this funding, this not only provides a much needed injection of monies, but raises awareness of the importance of primary and community healthcare.

Re-visit the learning conversation
The learning conversation has been used on ALSG courses since 2007 and has undoubtedly led to an improvement in the feedback we all engage in. To assist instructors’ understanding of some of the concepts behind our approach to feedback, Mike Davis and Kate Denning have written an engaging article about the learning conversation which is available here.
The article guides instructors towards a stance of active listening, thus
empowering the learners to articulate and make sense of their experiences
during simulations. We would like to encourage instructors to re-visit the
thinking behind the learning conversation before teaching on provider courses.
